Bikini bootcamp this summer

Posted by ferran on 26 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: exercie, getting in shape, Health

What a fantastic idea. Sign me up please. The Amansala hotel in Mexico offers a 6 day package in its spa so you are able to prepare your body for summer time. They call it bikini bootcamp and space is limited to only 25 people. This is one of the best offers I have seen in years.

Your days here will begin with a jog around the beach, aerobic classes and then end up with yoga or pilate classes. The food served is strictly diet based with fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. Your stay here will not be all work though, you can also enjoy day trips around the city and its surroundings, get a massage or simply relax in an environment that will give you enough strength for the next day.

I think this is something we should all give a try if we can. Now you can feel guilt free when you go on vacation, knowing that you are taking care of your health.

Apple vinegar , more purposes than one

Posted by ferran on 15 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: beauty products, Health

vinagar.jpg

We sometimes don´t realize the many uses one product could have that we use on a regular basis for just one thing. Apple vinegar is one of those products that serves for more than just a dressing on a salad, it has a lot more to offer than that.

Apple vinegar contains vitamins C, E, A, P B1, B2 y B6, iron, magnesium, calcium and many other minerals that are beneficial for our health. To start with, apple vinegar although it doesn’t´t smell too pretty when used as a last rinse on your hair leaves it shiny and bright (also helps keep lice of school children), it also helps if you are constipated, if you have a cold, if you suffer from asthma, and most importantly helps maintain your weight.

I´m sure there are a lot more uses for apple vinegar and if you know of one feel free to share with us

We need to be careful with the pesticides on our foods

Posted by ferran on 02 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Health

We have taken good care of ourselves, we try to eat low fat foods, not too many sweets, we drink a lot of water and of course, we eat a lot of fruits and vegetables to maintain a healthy lifestyle. But what happens when we intake pesticides (without knowing it)? Pesticides are used on crops by many farmers and they could hurt our bodies in a serious way.

There are many different studies that point out all the negative side affects that pesticides have on our body causing cancer and many other illnesses that could kill us. Although the European and American unions have been fighting to keep these pesticides away from our crops, the truth is farmers use them more often than not an this will continue to be a serious issue.

What can we do? Very simple, buy organic foods, clean all fruits and vegetables thoroughly and continue our healthy habits, keeping in mind that we need to be very careful with what we intake.

Obesity could be a problem of bacteria in your digestive system

Posted by ferran on 15 Jan 2007 | Tagged as: Health

With so many different studies out there by many scientists to figure out the cause of obesity there is one that stands out. The research team of the Geroma Science Center in the University of Washington states that there is certain proof that high levels of bacteria in the digestive tract could be one of the basic problems of obesity.

The scientist Jeffrey Gordon explains.

The cereal box says that a one-cup serving contains 110 calories. But it may be that not everyone will extract 110 calories from a cup of Cheerios. Some may extract more, some less, depending on the particular combination of microbes in their guts. “A diet has a certain amount of absolute energy,” he said. “But the amount that can be extracted from that diet may vary between individuals — not in a huge way, but if the energy balance is affected by just a few calories a day, over time that can make a big difference in body weight.”

This is why new clinics such as La Clinique de Paris in Alicante are so important to help us discover how our bodies function. With specific blood test these clinics could help you figure out what foods are good for you and which ones are the ones making you sick or could possibly hurt you in the future.

Sunflower Seeds healthy for you

Posted by ferran on 01 Dec 2006 | Tagged as: food, Health

pipas[1].jpg

Sunflower seeds are addictive, once you start you can´t stop and that could be a good thing. I have always loved sunflower seeds, so when I found out they were good for you I was pleasantly surprised and excited to know that at least one of the foods I love to eat is good for me.

Sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E (which is great for the skin), magnesium and potassium and help reduce cholesterol.  They also contain a high level of folic acid and iron (great for pregnant women).

Now you just need to remember that unpeeled salted sunflower seeds are not as healthy, so make sure you buy a bag of the already pealed ones and enjoy your new addiction.

Tanning Salon warnings

Posted by ferran on 01 Dec 2006 | Tagged as: Health

tanning bed.jpg

With the cold bitter winter here some of us start to get a little depressed at the sight of our pale complexion in the mirror and run quickly to the nearest tanning salon.  Here, the tanning beds offer us sunlight 365 days a year and give us a golden tan as natural as the sun itself but be careful these machines are not perfect like the tan they leave behind.

Many dermatologist warn that the artificial ultra violet rays these machines produce are directly related to alterations found in the cellular  DNA..  This could have effects on the body such as allergic or toxic reactions, tumorous lesions, and premature aging of the skin but the most worrisome effect is that of skin cancer.

If you want to maintain that sun glow look this winter I suggest using self tanners, that are easy to use and don´t leave any side affects.
