New food labels to help you STOP

Posted by julia on 24 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: Health, nutricion

In order to stay healthy it is very important to buy the right foods so we can make sure that what we eat will help keep us healthy. Even though all food now carries appropriate food labels, it is not enough.

The FDA is now thinking of developing a new type of food labels to be included on all food products. The new labels will be have a colour code system sort or like a traffic light that will indicate the amount of all ingredients with a green, yellow or red light so the consumer could easily see what he is buying.

I think this new initiative is something very interesting and necessary nowadays.  We are all running around like crazy and don’t have much time to spend on reading food labels, so having an easy system like this one will help us all reach our nutrition goals. But, we must still know when to STOP and not buy certain foods that are not good for us.

Osteoporosis sooner than you think

Posted by julia on 21 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: Health, getting in shape, nutricion

osteoporosis.jpg

I was 20 years old when as a professional ballet dancer, doctors from our ballet company discovered that my terrible feet pain was something that was not the normal dancer pain. After many tests and theories an x-ray revealed the demon that was behind my suffering and which would condemn me to a life of pain, osteoporosis.

What? How? It couldn’t be, but yes my friends it was true and although it’s not very common at that age it could happen. All women out there should always be on the alert and not think that “old people” diseases are going to affect us later in life. A woman should start preventing these diseases sooner than later. Exercise has been by saving force and without it I’m not sure I would be walking today. Exercise strengthens your muscular system by protecting your skeleton from possible fractures.

Living a healthy lifestyle at a young age will prevent pains in the future. Maintaining a healthy diet is something that is never too early to start.

The Gene we all desire

Posted by julia on 19 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: Health

fatand-skinny.jpg

How many times have you asked yourself why some people are so skinny even thought they eat everything they see and don’t exercise while others starve themselves and workout all day long are obese. Well, one of the reasons for this might be something new scientists have discovered.

I’m talking about a gene called adipose, which is present in all of us but those who have this gene in perfect condition are skinny and those who don’t well, they’re fat. I don’t know if its as simple as that but it is true that genetics has a lot to do with our predisposition.

This doesn’t mean that if we find out that we have a bad gene we should give up and top taking care of ourselves, because although genetics has a lot to do with this skinny fat thing, we still need to maintain our healthy lifestyle…Sorry, the skinny pill is not here yet.

Another nutrient to your health, Chia

Posted by julia on 14 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: Health

chia.jpg

The other day I wrote about quinoa, the nutrient that many consider a magical drug and today reading one of my favourite blogs I found an article about Chia, which seems to have many of the same mystical properties.

Chia seeds contain vitamins, omega 3, fibre and of course loads of antioxidants and could help fight cholesterol, Alzheimer, complicated pregnancies, arthritis, asthma and many other illnesses. Including chia to your diet is very easy; all you need is 5 grams a day to prevent illnesses and about 25 grams a day when there is an illness present.

With so many of these natural and cheap products out there I have to ask, why do people insist in eating junk food which is much more expensive and could kill you?

Posted by julia on 24 Ago 2007 | Tagged as: Health, food, getting in shape

48hourdiet.jpg

In just 48 hours you can eliminate a couple of pounds and at the same time impurities in your body that will help detox your internal system. The 48 hour diet is one a favourite with Hollywood celebrities, who use it every time they need to look their best before a special event.

This diet is very simple (if you could stand it) for 48 hours all you need to do is only drink the special 48 hour drink ( a bottle a day), more than half a litre of citric fruit juices, and as much water as your body needs. No solid foods or you will ruin the diet.

I think this is a great diet if you only do it once in a long while because it helps you clean your body and leaves you feeling Light. All diets you should consult your doctor to make sure it is something your body will be able to tolerate.

What is Candidiasis?

Posted by julia on 22 Jul 2007 | Tagged as: Health, food

candida.jpg

Even though I recognized this word it had been a long time that I had heard about it but the other day a very good friend of mine called me and told me she had been diagnosed with Muscular Sclerosis. She said that in her disease investigation she came across Ann Boroch’s web page, a nutritionist who healed herself from the disease thanks to a great diet that eliminated foods that cause candidiasis which some people think might be related to MS.

Candidiasis or candida is the growth of yeast. Candia is usually found in the skin, the stomach, the colon, vagina, rectum, the mouth and the throat. Candida can cause health problems only when there is an abnormal overgrowth in any of these parts of the body. The use of unnecessary antibiotics and poor nutrition rich is sugars, breads, milk can produce the growth of candida and become a health risk.

It is important to see your doctor if you suspect you may have an overgrowth of candida. Also visiting an anti-aging clinic such as La Clinique de Paris located in Alicante,Spain, that offers personalized analysis of your system and prepares a nutritional guide as well as vitamins can help you prevent mayor diseases and stay healthier and younger longer.

Senior Citizens and exercise

Posted by julia on 13 Jul 2007 | Tagged as: Health, getting in shape

yogaylaterceraedad.jpg

My mother who has never exercised in her life has decided at her 60 + years to take up yoga. She consulted her doctor who encouraged her and told her it was very important for seniors to take care of themselves but with caution. What type of exercise is right for seniors really depends on the senior and their abilities. After a certain age most people have health problems that they should take into consideration before doing any type of sports.

Yoga is one of those exercises that is very recommendable as well as Tai Chi, or simply just walking. The most important thing is to keep your body moving so we can keep youth at our side.
